As you are all aware, I am the proud mummy of the beautiful Isabella (pictured above). As a first time parent there are sooo many do's and don'ts and even more people trying to tell you how to be a parent. I'd just like to say to any of you first time parents; you're doing great, you're the parent and don't let anybody tell you how to bring up your child. You know them better than anybody.
It's not easy raising a baby, not even if the child is your 8th! As we are coming up to summer and the the little sunshine we get in England is finally beaming through the clouds; I struggle to maintain keeping Isabella cool. How do I know what she should wear? How can I keep her hydrated? How do I know if she is too warm?
Before I give any tips I would like to make sure that everybody is aware I am not a baby expert, nor a professional in this field. I am simply a first time mum with a few tips that I think I could help other first time mums.
There are a few things you can do to keep your baby cool.
Dress them in light clothing (I usually don't bother putting a vest on Isabella in warm weather and just put her in some rompers or a dress, for boys just shorts and a t-shirt).
Keep them shaded. If they're in the pram you can buy pram parasols that clip on and provide extra protection as well as having the hood of your pram pulled across.
Keep them hydrated, Cool boiled water and milk will keep your child hydrated in the scorching days. Make sure you speak to a doctor before giving your child cool boiled water as there is some stigma about whether babies should be allowed it. I was given the okay to do this but like I said, please speak to a doctor if you have any doubts.
A cool bath at the end of the day will help ease them into a good nights sleep without them being too warm. Obviously, make sure the bath isn't too cold but cool enough that isn't going to overheat them.
A good way to check whether they are warm or not is to feel their chest, the chest is the core of their body so if that feels too warm then its likely they are overheated.
Lastly; enjoy your time with your beautiful babies and don't wish any day away! They grow up so fast.
Love,
S
xx
